FeelAntropist is an interactive audio-visual installation. FeelAntropist is a prototype conversational agent created to analyze, trigger and generate basic affective responses. Basically people can have a msn-like chat with the project. FeelAntopist estimates what the conversation is about and generates an appropriate textual response. Grammar based parsing using the Penn-treebank is used as a basis for this. Next to basic chat FeelAntropist searches for affective words and their context. The probability of a word or sentence relating to the participant is estimated, if positive the most probable words are checked using an affective ontology. If an affective match is found the chat is classified using Eckman’s six basic emotions. Based on this estimated emotional state an automated question strategy is employed to further investigate the assumed affective state, these questions were validated by psychological research. Based on the affective state a video response is selected and displayed (see video below) as well as the audio manipulation settings of the computer voice reading the chat responses from FeelAntropist.
