Miscellaneous

Nexus is an interactive multiplayer gaming experience inspired by the work of Robert H. Frank. Everyone is an active participant in an abstract virtual world where you can work together, sneak in between and sabotage your neighbours, all for the win! Simultaneously we venture into game theory and create a gaming situation to uncover decision strategies. Considering self-interest we ask ourselves the question, do we really need each other? With your participation we want to gather the necessary information. In this way you’re not only playing a game and experiencing a work of art, you’re also taking part in an actual scientific experiment!
Pressure Sensitive Keyboard Interaction
A set of 2 demos for UIST 2009 (ACM Symposium on User Interface Software and Technology). The aim of this project is to innovate typing and basic keyboard interaction.
A follow up research on both projects was presented on the CHI 2010 conference in Atlanta, GA, USA. The project was accepted for both presentation and publication as a work in progress. Next to the poster presentation at the conference the scientific article “One-press Control: A Tactile Input Method for Pressure-Sensitive Computer Keyboards” was also published in the electronic CHI Extended Abstracts Proceedings and the ACM Digital Library.

Pink Science
Pink Science is a series of 5 t-shirts (and labels) explaining the scientific topics evolution, emergence, chaos theory, the uncertainty principle and self-reference. The shirts were designed to create public awareness and understanding of some “cool” science topics. They show a simple illustration and a slogan and come with little attached lables that explain the topic in a short story using easy language and metaphors from every day life…
Pink Science was created in close cooperation with Hanna Schraffenberger and Arnout Terpstra.
Nihilist Orchestra
A music composition project started in 2008. I will finish writing somewhere in 2009. The idea behind this project is to blend sound synthesis, automated composition and associative composition in an academic and organicist way musically speaking. But at the same time I want this music to be accessible to a larger audience and maybe even underground culture. Next to the computer and academic music approach I try to blend in more recognizable structures that are mostly know from film scoring. Some releases are underway or might already be released while you are reading this.
Quad Interface Performance #2
The Quad Interface Performance #2 is a music theatre performance created in close collaboration with Louis Marlon and Eric Parren. The performance deals with popular performance practices, poise and alternative musical interfaces in a light and humoristic manner.
Time Prism
Time prism is an interactive installation based on the classic ’slit scanning’ video effect. Time Prism is created and maintained in close collaboration with Maurice Kraanen.

Out of the Blue
In collaboration with Marina de Haas and the AR+RFID Lab we created a unique audio-visual AR environment made of round objects leading back to the basics of all organic shapes on earth. The ellipse shapes come out of the walls and find their way into the exhibition space. When you wear the Augmented Reality headset you are bound to stay in a circle of 1.50 meter from the table, which is set in the middle of the space near the wall. This means you will see and hear spheres flying through the space. The whole background setting is also guided by sound, moving, breathing, with spheres coming out of the walls and move back into the walls.
